Lydia Roach was born in Michigan 18 Oct. 1872. Her parents were listed as Thomas Caley and Sarah Looney from the Isle of Mann on her marriage licenses to first and second husbands as well as census data.
On the 1880 Census and first marriage license she lists her name as Elizabeth L instead of Lydia E. and as the daughter of the Caleys.
However, it is likely she was adopted by the Caleys and was actually the daughter of George and Elizabeth Evo from Canada (census records state they are of English descent but other descendants claim they are of French descent.)
I can find no birth certificate for Lydia Caley but there is a Lydia Evo born 18 Oct 1871. The 1900 census Lydia E Roach lists birth as Oct 1871. Lydia E/Elizabeth L Caley/Roach always lists parents as Thomas Caley and Sarah (Looney) Caley. It is likely that she was adopted by the Caleys after her parents died. She was born after the 70 census and adopted before the 80 census which explains lack of census record.
She Married Edward John Docherty 17 Sep. 1891. They had a daughter, Bernice Irene, in 1896. After Edward left, she married Ed Roach. Bernice was legally adopted by Roach. She had two more children with Ed:
Mildred (1897 - 1976) and Harold Glenn (1880 - ?). Mildred married Claude Brace and lived in Texas. Mildred had 3 children:
Kenneth, Douglas, and Larry. On Milfred's Texas death certificate she lists her mother's name as Lydia Elizabeth Evaux.
After Docherty left Lydia, he had eleven more children (7 whole lived to adulthood) from Rose Watz (1878 - 1939). No reason has been found to explicitly state why Docherty left. My grandmother -his biological granddaughter said she did not know. However, the fact that he had a baby with Rose in May of 1896 suggests that an affair was at the heart of it.
Lydia died in 1945.
