Amanda was born July 1, 1974 in Atlanta Georgia to Steve and Lynda Watson.  Amanda's father left a year later.  She moved to El Paso Texas in fifth grade.  After middle school she needed to move to Ohio to live with her dad and step mother, Claudette.  She attended the original Olentangy High School.  She was on the cross country team, home coming court and student body.  Immediately after high school she joined the Army reserves.  She went through Basic training and then Advanced Training as a medic in San Antonio, Texas.  When she returned she chose to live with the family of a high school friend rather than her father.  Joan and John Peiffer and their three boys became a surrogate family to Amanda.  Amanda enrolled in school at Ohio State University.  During weekend Army drill Amanda met Brue Hoyt.  They lived togther for a year and a half before breaking up.  They began dating again by the summer of 1996.  A year later they were married on July 26, 1997.  She moved into the house he owned on Aberdeen Ave in Columbus Ohio.  She graduated from OSU with a degree in Women's studies in winter 1998.  She quickly acquired employment in the Ohio Senate as a legislative aid for Senator Linda Furney whom she had interned for a year earlier.

Amanda went on to work for Herington, the Minority Leader in the Senate.

April 13, 2004 she had her first Child, Lillian.  December 8, 2006 she had her second child, Eleanor.

Amanda left the state for a brief time to work for Moresteam.com.  She returned to the state in the Treasurers office.  When Capri Cafaro became minority leader of the senate, she asked Amanda to be her chief of staff.  She is currently working in the private sector utilizing networks and experience gained in public life.
